PPG – Server Upgrade and VirtualisationChris Rinaldi
PPG engaged Torque IT to replace ageing servers by planning and installing new servers built to handle specialised software and data while focusing on speed and reliability.
- Replace ageing server systems
- Build and install new servers focussed on speed and reliability
- Implement virtual server environments
- Reduce number of servers
- Improve responsiveness of third party software and databases
Torque IT investigated PPG’s needs for new application servers and recommended a solution that provided two virtual servers on the one machine for their specialised software application and one additional server for their database.
The servers were built for faster access of information from the software systems and the database, with storage for logging and data on slower disks. Torque IT also facilitated the preparation and migration of data to the new server systems.
The virtual server environments allowed the specialised software to call upon shared hardware resources when and as required, which means costly system resources are not spending time in idle when they could be working on other tasks.
The reduced number of servers has the added benefit or reducing costs associated with setup and ongoing maintenance. Existing systems have been repurposed for the new system structure where possible, further reducing costs while providing speed and reliability.
PPG has experienced minimal downtime and no measurable impact to business operations has occurred throughout this project.
The new server system will be more responsive and reliable in handling PPG’s specialised software systems and data.
“We are impressed by the high level of expertise and communication Torque IT dedicated to this project and how we experienced virtually no downtime.”
